The Mercedes 560sl R 107 is the longest-running sports car body ever produced, in production from 1971 to 1989, for around 18 years. It is also the second longest produced of all car bodies ever made, just behind the G Class W 461 and 463 series (which were also produced in parallel). The success of the R 107 is no coincidence: its comfort, chassis, performance and practicality are still far superior to today’s traffic and conditions. Its reliability is legendary, its opening roof is easy to handle, its boot is the size of a limousine, its short body makes it agile and easy to park, and its relatively light weight (around 1500kg) and powerful engines make it a driving experience and a driving performance delight. For these reasons it was used as a raily car, even in Monte Carlo (SLC). The 560 was the largest engine available in the series, for only three years from 1986 to 1989, and was produced exclusively for the US (USA), Japanese and Australian markets. This engine was supplied for the shortest period and the narrowest market, and for this reason, and also because of its performance, the market value of the 560 SL is much higher than that of the other SLs, costing approximately twice as much. The model offered for sale is superbly equipped with a four-speed automatic gearbox, Gullideckel wheels, ABS, ASR, power mirror adjustment, air conditioning, leather seats, armrests, cruise control, electric windows and comes with an immaculate hard top in the same colour as the car’s paintwork. Mercedes R 107s have almost the highest value appreciation prospects of any veteran car, with annual appreciation of over 20 per cent, which is constantly and dynamically increasing, especially in the current economic climate (finite number of units).
