Introduced in December of 1970 at the same time as the sportier Celica, the Carina was available in 2 and 4-door body styles. It shared chassis and mechanical components with the Celica. It was available in a 4-cylinder 1400ccm and 1600ccm version, the larger engine was fitted with twin carburates. The engines were mated to a 5-speed transmission which was also very rare at the time.
